Karua dumps Raila, throws weight behind Uhuru in 2017 polls
Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua has ended her association with the opposition coalition Cord and is now warming up to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s camp.
Ms Karua on Thursday asked her party’s delegates in Kirinyaga county to vote for President Kenyatta in the coming general election.
She also insisted she is in the Kirinyaga county gubernatorial race.
She made the remarks during a meeting with party delegates at Kianyaga Catholic Church hall in Gichugu constituency.
Ms Karua dismissed as untrue reports that she will form a super alliance with Cord.
“There were reports on social media that I will form a super alliance with Cord. This false and the information should be ignored. Narc-Kenya is not going to form any alliance with any coalition,” she said.
The Narc-Kenya leader told residents that she has no problem with President Kenyatta being re-elected.
NO PROBLEM
“My party will not be fielding a presidential candidate in 2017 and the residents from this region want Mr Kenyatta to go back to State House. I have no problem with that. They should elect him to complete his two terms,” she told the 400 delegates.
She added:”When I asked my supporters who they want as their president next year they replied they prefer Mr Kenyatta and I have told them to do so and elect me as the governor.”
However, Ms Karua said her party will not form an alliance with Jubilee Party.
“My Party will not join the Jubilee to form an alliance,” she said.
Ms Karua also said her party will sponsor candidates eyeing the seats of ward representatives, woman representatives and governors.
Further, Ms Karua said she supported President Kenyatta’s fight against corruption.
“President Kenyatta is doing his best to fight corruption and I fully support his endeavours,” she said.
Ms Karua noted that corruption is a monster, which should be fought by everyone in the country.
JOIN HANDS
“I will join hands with the President to fight graft in the country. Everyone should back efforts by the head of state,” she said.
Ms Karua promised to serve all without discrimination once elected the Kirinyaga governor.
She observed that health and transport sectors are in a pathetic condition and promised to reform them.
“I’m a workaholic and everyone knows that. Even President Kenyatta recognised me during Mashujaa Day as a heroine. I will transform Kirinyaga into an economic hub if elected,” she said.
Ms Karua told her rivals to brace themselves for a major political battle in the next polls.
“I have thrown my hat in the ring and it will be tough ride for my opponents,” she said.
