Kalonzo’s warning to Muthama on role in Raila campaigns

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has warned Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama to toe the party line or forget about campaigning for Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Speaking on Sunday after attending a church service at AIC Kasina in Mlolongo, Mr Musyoka said the senator can not campaign for Mr Odinga without campaigning for Wiper Party.

“I want Senator Muthama to accept to be under the authority of the party now because he cannot preach a different message from what the party is preaching,” said Mr Musyoka.

“There will reach a time when I will ask Raila to choose whether to work with Muthama or Kalonzo,”he added.

Senator Muthama fell out with the Wiper leadership after Machakos deputy governor Bernard Kiala lost in the Machakos gubernatorial nominations.

On Sunday, Mr Musyoka said he did not impose any candidate anywhere in the country during the party’s nominations.

A day earlier, Senator Muthama had openly castigated the manner the party treated Kitui Senator David Musila during the nominations.

“When you heard me say I will not defend my seat it is because Musila was mistreated. (Governor) Malombe rigged the elections and those who presided over the elections wrote a letter saying so. Malombe should have been disqualified from being a candidate,” said Senator Muthama during the burial of Senator Musila’s mother on Saturday.

On Friday when the Wiper party leadership held a rally in Machakos to drum up support for governor nominee Wavinya Ndeti, Mr Muthama and Mr Kiala were conspicuously absent.
