Kalembe Ndile: Lets ferry Form 34As, 34Bs on boda bodas

Veteran politician Kalembe Ndile had suggested that returning officers should ferry tabulated forms containing presidential election results on ‘boda bodas’ (motorbikes) to the national tallying centre at the Bomas of Kenya during the repeat October 26 polls, that’s if need be.

The former Kibwezi lawmaker made this suggestion at a public hearing for the proposed laws on electoral reforms at County Hall in Nairobi on Tuesday.

The hearings have been arranged so as to include suggestions from the public in the electoral reform laws currently tabled in Parliament.

RESULTS TRANSMISSION

“Let’s not blame the officers who made mistakes in transmissions of results during the August elections,” the former Tourism assistant minister explained.

“After all we made such mistakes, I’m sure you have once or twice sent mobile money to a wrong telephone number.”

That is why I support the manual transmission of results. This is to say, if we need results to be sent to Bomas, we can even hire boda boda,” he added, a comment that caused laughter among those present at the hearing.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory in the August elections was annulled by the Supreme Court partly because most of the Form 34As and 34Bs were not signed by agents and returning officers as required by the law.
