Kakamega tycoon vows to derail Khalwale’s gubernatorial ambitions
A wealthy Kakamega businessman has thrown a spanner in the work into Boni Khalwale’s quest to succeed Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
The businessman Cleophas Shimanyula aka ‘Toto’ has vowed to sell half of his assets to ensure the former Kakamega Senator doesn’t realize his political ambitions.
Speaking during a radio interview, Toto, who is known to be close to Oparanya and boasts vast interests in the transport and real estate sectors, also branded Khalwale as desperate and broke.
CAMPAIGN MACHINERY
The businessman also bragged about his capability to easily bankroll Khalwale’s campaign machinery.
“He could humbly borrow from me 10 cars and about Sh200 million to fund his campaign but chose abuses. He fights me because I don’t support him. I will show my true colours in 2022,” said Shimanyula.
DEEP POCKETS
Shimanyula, who is famous for his deep pockets, is also the main financier of Kenyan Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz.
Oparanya, who defeated Khalwale during the 2017 elections, is in his final tenure having served the mandatory two-five year terms.
Khalwale is considered the main front runners for the gubernatorial seat, but he should expect a stiff challenge from the county’s current Senator Cleophas Malala.
