Nairobi’s first illegal dumpsite-turned-children’s playground unveiled – PHOTOS

All illegal dumping sites in Nairobi are expected to be converted into playgrounds for children to help combat one of the city’s biggest problems.

The directive, which was issued by Governor Mike Sonko, has already been rolled out with the first rehabilitated dumping site being a section of Kangemi area Cemetery.

“Nairobi City County environment department officers will utilize all illegal dump-sites in a better way by converting them into playgrounds for children. Today I’m happy to announce that a section of Kangemi area cemetery, which was turned into illegal dumping site, is now under rehabilitation and very soon residents of those areas will use it as a park,” Sonko said in a post on his Facebook timeline.

“I’m calling upon all Nairobians to ensure that they dump their garbage at designated dumping areas,” he added.
