Polycarp Igathe who has resigned as Nairobi deputy governor had praised his boss Governor Mike Sonko seven hours before pulling the surprise move.

Mr Igathe had defended Mr Sonko as “focused” during Friday’s NTV Today show. He gave no hint of a strain with the governor.

“I want to assure people out there that the governor is focused because his first promise was a clean and bright Nairobi,” said Mr Igathe.

He then went on to detail their work plan for Nairobi.

“We gazetted a decongestion plan which is to stop the decanting of all these upcountry matatus into those three areas (downtown Nairobi)”, he said.

“We want to hire about 100 young men in different wards who we will pay on a monthly basis & these people will be the effective collectors of this garbage,” he said.

Mr Igathe has also been a defender of Mr Sonko and his controversial rescue team.
