IEBC responds to Chebukati’s ‘resignation’ letter
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has denounced a letter being circulated on social media purported to be from the commission chair Wafula Chebukati tendering his resignation.
Tabitha Mutemi, IEBC Manager for Communications and Corporate Affairs, said the letter dated April 23 and bearing the commission’s logo was not authentic and did not originate from the electoral body.
“It is fake,” said Mutemi when contacted for comment on the said resignation letter shared on Twitter by a number of unverified accounts before a statement was issued through the official IEBC twitter account.

Mr Chebukati last week vowed that he will stay put after three commissioners resigned and that the commission as currently constituted is rightfully in place.
The embattled electoral commission boss has been warding off pressure from some quarters demanding for his exit, asking those who have issues with his team to follow the law to remove them from office.
This also comes amid a sharp split in the Senate committee on Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights following its two botched meetings with the IEBC commissioners.
The committee chaired by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei had on April 18 written to the commission inviting the three commissioners to appraise it on the decision to send CEO Ezra Chiloba on compulsory leave.
