How top lawyers fleeced City Hall

A massive Sh1.2 billion legal bill is threatening to cripple the new county.

The cash is owed to lawyers who represented the old city council in thousands of cases — and the debt has been inherited by the new county government.

Now the county should negotiate with the lawyers to have the bill reduced, according to a report by a new task force.

Some lawyers had worked in cahoots with corrupt City Hall officials to charge exorbitant fees and in most of the cases, records of actual payments were not available, the report stated.
