Here are the facts you didn’t know about Pope’s Nairobi visit


Pope Francis will arrive in Nairobi on  November 25 for a three day visit in his first African tour since he ascended to the Papacy.

The theme of the visit is “Do not be afraid”.

The Pope is scheduled to meet with leaders of other faiths, talk to the youth at Kasarani and  meet slum dwellers in Kangemi.

The Pope will also celebrate Mass at the University of Nairobi grounds.

Here, we give you a breakdown of the Pope’s visit in numbers;

1.2 billion- The number of Catholic faithful worldwide

14 million- The number of Catholics in Kenya

700- Number of Catholic parishes in Kenya

4 million- The number of Catholics living in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi

1.4 million- The number of Kenyans expected to attend the Papal mass

124 million- The amount raised during a recent fundraiser towards the Pope’s visit, the church had a target of Sh200 million

2,000- Number of Catholics from Mombasa Archdiocese expected to arrive in Nairobi during pope visit

Sh2 million- The amount Mombasa Archdiocese will spend to transport catholic faithfuls to Nairobi.

200,000- The number of youths to attend Pope Francis’ youth meeting at Kasarani

10,000- Number of police officers who will provide security during the three day Papal visit
