Hackers claim to have staged cyber attack on Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Anonymous, an international network of activist and hacktivist, has claimed to have hacked and leaked sensitive information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The group claims to have released more than 1 terabyte (TB) of confidential data on the “dark web”.
In a swift rejoinder, ICT CS Joe Mucheru told NTV that he has opened probe into the alleged hack.
Anonymous said the cyber-attack was part of an operation launched last year to fight child abuse, child labour and corruption in African countries.
“It’s too late for Kenyan government to expect us,” Anonymous wrote.
According to the group, the dumped data contains confidential and non-confidential files from the ministry’s server, including email conversations, security related communication, international trade agreements and letters.
“We have 1TB of data but at the moment, we have leaked just one portion of it. In few days you will receive full disclosure of the data – We the Anonymous will stand against corruption, child abuse, and child labour! The government of Kenya should have expected,” Anonymous was quoted by Hackread, a news website on technology.
When Nairobi News contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, an official said; “We have not lost any documents. Every document on our website is public information – nothing sensitive.”
