Why Governor Wangamati inspected this guard of honour

Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati has become a laughing stock after a picture of him inspecting a guard of honour mounted by county employees went viral.

The photo emerged on social media on Wednesday showing the first-time governor in between a line of employees as he walked.

A county employee said the incident happened on Monday in Webuye town.

The photo has been criticized by social media users who said Mr Wangamati was inspecting a guard of honour mounted by non-uniformed county employees.

“What is this, is this why we elected him to inspect the guard of honour? He should deal with developing the county not this drama,” said John Wepukhulu.

However, a senior county employee, who asked for anonymity and who was present during the event, said that the governor had visited to inspect the former Webuye Mayor’s office in order to find out if it can be used to house some ministries.

IMPROMPTU VISIT

He said that while Mr Wangamati was inside the office during an impromptu visit, the enforcement officers who were in civilian clothes rushed and lined up for the guard of honour to be inspected by the governor even though he had not planned for it.

“When the governor moved out of the office to leave, he found the enforcement officers already having prepared themselves and he was forced to inspect it, nothing much, those are enforcement officers who wanted show their availability and readiness to serve the county,” said the officer.
