Girl kidnapped by house-help found in Mombasa
A four-year-old girl, who was kidnapped by a househelp in Nairobi, has been found in Mombasa and is now safe in the hands of her parents.
Parents of the girl, who live in Kariobangi, Nairobi, were reunited with their daughter, Najma Wangoi , at Bamburi Police Station in Mombasa.
The girl disappeared on Sunday after she went to church with a househelp, who had been hired four days before.
Looking desperate
Police in Bamburi said the househelp had told the girl’s mother, Mrs Fridah Munyiva, that they were going to church, but when they failed to return, the parents reported to Kariobangi Police Station.
That Sunday evening, the househelp is said to have arrived in Mombasa and went to the gate of Shanzu Teachers Training College.
Mr Steve Njuguna, a community policing officer, spotted her and approached her “because she was looking desperate.”
“She told me that she and the little girl were chased by their grandmother and were looking for help to get to Nairobi where their mother was. I decided to take her to Bamburi Police Station to seek help,” he said.
The two spent the night at Bamburi and left the following day. The next day, Mr Njuguna saw the househelp at the same spot, talking on the phone.
“I took the phone to find out who she was talking with. That is when a woman’s voice said the housegirl had kidnapped her daughter,” Mr Njuguna said.
Mrs Munyiva contacted officers at Kariobangi, who coordinated with their Bamburi counterparts, and arrested the househelp.
