A 23-year-old suspected gangster was on Friday shot dead by police officers at Biafra sewerage area in Nairobi’s Shauri Moyo estate during an attempted robbery at Kizite Coca-Cola depot.

The slain suspected was part of a three-man gang that was terrorizing members of the public outside the depot.

Police Spokesperson Zipporah Mboroki said police officers who were tipped off by members of the public on the robbery rushed to the scene where they engaged the gang in exchange of fire after they defied orders to surrender.

She said the officers gunned down one of the gangsters while two others managed to escape towards the sewerage area.

“The Officers recovered a homemade pistol, two rounds of ammunition and a kitchen knife at the scene,” Mboroki said.

She said the body of the dead gangster, whom Shauri Moyo residents termed as a dangerous criminal, was taken to the City Mortuary.
