Four arrested for damaging train seats

Makadara.

Four passengers were arrested by railway guards on Wednesday on suspicion that they ripped off seat cushions in the wagons.

The four who had alighted from the Dandora and Embakasi trains, were allegedly caught wiping their shoes using sponges believed to have been ripped off the train seats.

Rift Valley Railway station master Charles Kogi said the habit was common during the rainy season.

“What they were doing is unacceptable. We have issued warnings in the past against the behaviour,” he said.

RVR General Passenger Service manager James Siele said the culprits will be charged for damage of public property.

Mr Siele said it is ironical that the culprits will be the ones complaining soon about how unkempt seats in the train are.

“We are actually planning on changing the material used in making seats in the trains at least to curb the menace,” he said.
