Former Women Rep’s son pleads guilty to raping sister-in-law in US

A son of a former Women Representative from Rift Valley has pleaded guilty to “indecent liberties” with a minor in the United Sates, who police said was also his family member.

Leonard Kiptoo Langat, 24, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for a sex crime involving a girl in Concord.

According to reports, Langat was on holiday break from school in Concord when he entered a female relative’s room and engaged in unwanted sexual activity.

Concord Police Capt. John Tierney said the incident happened in December.

EXPULSION FROM MILITARY ACADEMY

The 24-year-old was undergoing military training at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland before he was accused of raping a minor in North Carolina.

He faces expulsion from the military academy.

The minor is reported to be the sister of his elder brother’s wife.

The New York Times reported that the man is currently on leave of absence pending dismissal from the military school after being convicted.

NOT IN TOUCH

Contacted for a comment by the Star newspaper on Wednesday, his mother (who has not been named) without denying Langat is her son said, “I am not in touch with them.”

“Langat, who lived in North Carolina, left the state after the incident and returned to the Naval Academy,” Tierney said.

Academy spokesman Cmdr. David McKinney says it coordinated with Annapolis, Maryland, police to arrange Langat’s arrest in January after he returned to school.

He was arrested on January 9 and charged with first-degree forcible sexual offense and statutory rape of a person under 15.

He pleaded guilty to his charges in Cabarrus County Superior Court.
