Former MCA arrested after his wife dies following rape ordeal

A man has been arrested in Kiambu and charged in court following the death of his middle-aged wife who was raped and doused with acid on Wednesday night after a family dispute.

Lucy Njambi, 21, from Karembu in Gatundu South succumbed to the injuries Friday morning at the Kenyatta National Hospital where she had been referred.

Her husband, Samwel Ndung’u, is the immediate former MCA for Riruta Ward. He was remanded in police custody until Monday to allow police more time to conduct investigations.

Police are probing claims that the couple has been having domestic quarrels before Njambi fled with her five-year-old son, neighbours say.

Njambi has been living in a rented apartment at Thindigwa, along Kiambu Road.

ABDUCTED

Police are investigating allegations that Njambi’s husband and three other people picked her from home and drove away with her in a saloon car.

The woman is said to have later been abandoned without clothes at an isolated location at Kamiti Corner in Ruiru.

According to witnesses, Njambi was still speaking when she was rescued by Good Samaritans and taken to Kiambu Hospital.

Police also investigating claims that she had been raped by one of her abductors and doused with acid.

Her uncle, Peter Ndung’u, told Nairobi News that Njambi had suffered 70 per cent burns. She was referred to Kenyatta National Hospital on Thursday.

Ndung’u was arrested and detained at Kiambu Police Station.

He was taken to court on Friday morning but remanded to allow more time for the police to conduct further investigations.
