Five passengers from Nairobi dead, nine injured in Makuyu accident
Five people died and nine others were seriously injured in a road crash at the Mlima Swara blackspot, near Kakuzi farm, on the Nairobi-Nyeri highway.
Makuyu police boss Paul Wanjama said a lorry belonging to Kakuzi Ltd and ferrying timber lost control and hit two vehicles on Thursday night.
Four women and one man died on the spot, he said.
The injured were taken to Thika Level 5 Hospital.
Mr Wanjama said the two matatus, one belonging to Ketno Sacco and the other to Emuki Sacco, were heading to Embu from Nairobi when the crash happened.
The wreckage of the matatus were towed to the Makuyu Police Station.
