A case where five Safari Park Hotel staff who were accused of stealing sh16 million will now be heard on the same dates, a Makadara Court has now directed.

The five, George Gitura Ndwiga, Anne Aketch Omollo, Caroline Wangui Nyambura, Silvanah Wanjiru Waithira and Robert Kiarie Karanja were accused of committing the offence between 2016 and 2017 and went into hiding.

They were arrested on different dates.

Following the arrests, the court has now consolidated the matter and set fresh dates for a hearing.

According to police records, Ndwiga and Omollo on diverse dates between April 16 and July 2016 at Paradise Safari Park Hotel conspired with intent to defraud by means of backdating cash payment invoices in the system.

They then falsely pretended that the proceeds of the payment had already been submitted to the management.

Prosecution claims the two then defrauded the hotel Sh2.2 million.

Gitura, the Hotel IT supervisor, was also accused that on diverse dates between April and November 2016, alongside Silvanah Wanjiru, stole Sh3.7 million, by virtue of being the hotel’s employees.

And on diverse dates between March 30, 2016 and January 2017 at the hotel, by the same means of backdating the system Gitura and his colleague Robert Kiarie Karanja allegedly stole Sh8.2 million.

The IT supervisor was further accused of colluding with Caroline Wangui Nyambura to steal Sh2.6 million on diverse dates between April 28 and November 29, 2016.

The case of all the five will now be heard from July 9-12 this year.
