Film board bans ‘girls only’ bash as restaurant disowns it
The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has outlawed a girl’s only speed dating party that was set to take place this weekend at an upmarket restaurant in Nairobi.
In a statement, KFCB CEO, Ezekiel Mutua, said the in instructions on the party’s flier suggests that the attendees will be lesbians.
The use of “Girls Only” further implies that the party will be an orgy of lesbians, he added, like in the case of the foiled Project X.
The planned party was scheduled to be held on Saturday, July 30 at The Juniper Kitchen, Westlands.
“The owners of the premises have denied ever organizing the event or generating the poster being circulated online. The board has reported the matter to the police for further investigation,” read the statement in part.
In a statement, The Juniper Kitchen alleged that the club was unaware of the said party, instead saying one of their fliers had been edited.
“Juniper has recently received media attention based on false information. The proposed event (which was already cancelled at the time allegations surfaced) was a speed dating event for Saturday 30th July. Someone edited the poster to make it appear as though the proposed event was for girls only,” said the club in a Facebook post.
“This Saturday we have DJ Ace from Hot 96 playing from 6pm and NO SPEED DATING will take place.”
But Mr Mutua however said that the board was privy to information that there was going to be filming of pornographic content during the orgy.
Homosexuality is illegal in Kenya and the themed event was violating public decency and morality. Article 45 of the Constitution of Kenya criminalizes homosexuality. Section 181 of the Penal Code also prohibits the distribution and exhibition of indecent content.
