Former Gor Mahia midfielder Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito’s has missed out on a potentially lucrative move to the Spanish La Liga after failing to secure travel and residential documents, Nairobi News understands.

The Ugandan international is reported to have impressed during a fortnight long trial at Malaga, but failed to complete a transfer before the January transfer deadline on Monday night.

“I don’t understand the French embassy,” Rayco Garcia, who has been representing the player on the Spanish tour, told Ugandan newspaper Daily Monitor.

Garcia claims Kizito was handed a one-month Schengen Visa by the French embassy which expires in mid-February. The reason behind granting Kizito a short term Visa to Europe, according to Garcia, was informed by fears that the player could “disappear”.

As it turned out, that short term stay wasn’t enough for Kizito and his representatives to conclude the deal.

“How can a national team player fly from Uganda to Spain and vanish?” Garcia lamented.

Thus, Kizito who won the Kenyan Premier League title in 2013 with K’Ogalo, will have to wait until June in his bid to become the first Ugandan and second ever East African, Kenyan Macdonald Mariga, to play for a top Spanish club.
