Eight Eritreans rescued from suspected human traffickers

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have rescued eight Eritreans aged between 17 and 31 years who are believed to be victims of human trafficking.

The eight were rescued on Friday after the detectives intercepted a vehicle which they were being ferried in at Wamba Junction in Isiolo County.

Three suspects, Alhabass Ali, Abdi Hassan, and Ibrahim Adan, were arrested while another suspect escaped. Two vehicles were also detained in connection to the syndicate.

This comes just days after detectives attached to the Transnational Organized Crime raided a house in Kiambu and rescued 25 women believed to be human trafficking victims.

Police said the victims are aged between 24 and 33 years old and were being held hostage at the said home in Gwa Kairu area in Kiambu County pending transit to Asian countries.

In the house, the police also found three more people believed to be involved in human trafficking. The three suspects, who have been identified as Mercy Kaaia, Lydia Wairimu and Susan Nyambura Nganga, are in police custody.
