EACC now summons six MCAs over City Hall fracas

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has summoned six Nairobi County Assembly members over the fracas that occurred at City Hall’s precincts on Monday.

The six include Majority Leader Abdi Guyo, Minority Leader Elias Otieno and Minority Whip Peter Imwatok.

Others are Waithaka MCA Anthony Kiragu Karanja, Ngando MCA Peter Wahinya and nominated MCA Mary Njambi.

The MCAs have been summoned to appear before the anti corruption agency on Wednesday to facilitate investigations into alleged unethical conduct by Ward Representatives.

They are also accused of violating Section 42 (10) of the Integrity and Leadership Act, 2012.

RECORD STATEMENTS

The leaders will record the statements with EACC officers Eunice Hinga and Juliet Wanjuhi.

“The Commission would like you to respond to these allegations and record a statement regarding the same. To this end, you are required to appear at the EACC headquarters at Integrity Centre at 10am, ” read in part the letter addressed to Mr Guyo.

The letter went on to inform the Matopeni MCA that failure to comply with the notice will render him liable to penal consequences.

“Take notice that failure to comply with this notice shall render you liable to penal consequences, ” said the letter dated September 11 and signed by Lucy Kinuthia on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer Halakhe Waqo.

MOMBASA RETREAT

Talking to the Nation, Mr Guyo said that he had not physically received the summon but stated that he will honour the notice and appear before the Commission on Monday next week after coming from Mombasa where Nairobi MCAs are having a retreat.

“I will appear before the commission on Monday when I am back from Mombasa, ” he said.

The summon comes just a day after a number of City MCAs stormed Speaker Beatrice Elachi’s office and ejected her following her impeachment on Thursday last week.

Ms Elachi has however received temporary reprieve from the Labour Court until her case is heard on Friday this week.
