A video has surfaced online of National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale hinting that the government will not frustrate the return of lawyer Miguna Miguna.

Mr Duale spoke during the annual Somali Community Cultural Festival held in Eastleigh last month.

He disclosed that  plans were underway to ensure Mr Miguna is allowed entry at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after his dramatic deportation in March.

Mr Duale said Miguna’s Kenyan passport will be handed back to him to facilitate his travel back home.

“Miguna will return very soon. Miguna is a Kenyan. He will receive a heroic reception at the airport. He will conduct series of meetings in Kisumu and other parts of the country,” said Mr Duale.

The vocal Garissa Township MP conceded that Mr Miguna’s deportation to Canada had deeply divided the country, hindering the essence of the famous handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nasa leader Raila Odinga.

“His supporters are unhappy… We are going to ensure he is back in the country … We want him back so that we can unite Kenyans and in 2022 he can contest in the general elections,” the MP added.

The controversial lawyer was set to return to the country on Wednesday, but canceled at the last minute citing the refusal of the Immigration Department to grant him a Kenyan passport as ordered by High Court.

This follows the Immigration Department’s hardline position that he has to apply for Kenyan citizenship before he can be issued with a passport.
