Don’t call me a fake gold merchant, my biz is legit – Zaheer Jhanda

Flamboyant city politician Zaheer Jhanda has defended his involvement in gold trade.

Jhanda is at the centre of a complex gold fraud case in which a Saudi royal was conned of Sh250 million.

But in his defence, the businessman told NTV that it was his first time to be involved in gold business and had no clue of differentiating fake from genuine.

“This is my first time coming into this business where I am an investor, I put money, and I’m expecting the genuine gold to come from Congo so that we can be able to take it to Dubai and do business,” he said.

Jhanda said he was not involved in the fake gold scam in which suspects were nabbed in Kilimani.

“I am not trying to legitimize myself in whatever capacity,” he added.

He also defended himself on his role in the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) compensation that has raised eyebrows.

“I was just going to ask for my money, I was not going to do anything dirty… since when did EACC become property valuers?” he questioned.
