Donate cash but respect the church, ACK Archbishop now tells politicians
The head of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit, now says the church is not opposed to donations but insists that politicians should watch their tongues when they take the pulpit.
The Archbishop made the remarks just days after he appeared to express his reservations to contribution of cash by politicians from proceeds of corruption scandals.
“Hatujasema tumekata pesa ya mtu yeyote lakini tunasema tutoe kwa njia ambayo ni staarabu, kwa njia ambayo itaheshimu mwenyezi Mungu. Isiwe ni nafasi amabyo tunatumia kana kwamba tunajipigia debe ama kutangaza mambo mengine ambayo si ya kikristo,” said Sapit.
Sapit was speaking in Garissa at the weekend during the installation of Bishop David Mutisya of the newly created Garissa Diocese.
CORRUPT LEADERS
His remarks come as political leaders said they should not be banned for making a financial contribution or engage the church congregation on matters of National importance.
Archbishop Ole Sapit had early expressed his reservations towards money being contributed by politicians. He added they should give ‘silently’ without announcing.
“Let us not allow harambee money to become a way to sanitize corrupt leaders,” the Archbishop said.
“Let us learn to worship God with our resources quietly and not hide behind harambees and guests of honour because that is where we go wrong,” he argued.
