Did teacher commit suicide over unpaid September salary?

A primary school teacher committed suicide at Kiriogo village in Nyandarua County under intriguing circumstance.

The body of Patrick Irungu, 38, a teacher at Kirera primary school, was found hanging inside his house by a relative on Wednesday morning.

According to his father, Mr Gathenya Irungu, the father of two had left for the bank in Nyahururu town on Tuesday morning to check on his September salary.

But he returned home upset after learning that it was yet to be deposited in his account.

“The following morning I called him several times but he was not answering at my calls. I got suspicious and went to his house only to find his body hanging from the roof of his house,” said Mr Gathenya.

The body is lying at Nyahururu District Hospital mortuary.

Confirming the incident, Nyandarua North OCPD Morris Assila said the body of the deceased was found hanging on a rope in his house.

“Police received the information concerning the incident following a scream heard from the members of the homestead,” explained Mr Assila.

He said police have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the suicide.

The Police boss at the same time raised an alarm on the increased cases of murder and suicide in the area.
