Musician Demi Lovato rushed to hospital after suspected drug overdose

American pop singer Demi Lovato was on Tuesday rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after a suspected drug overdose, US media has reported.

According to American celebrity gossip website TMZ, emergency services were called to the 25-year-old’s Hollywood home and was found unconscious and treated at the scene with naloxone, an anti-opioid medicine.

The Los Angeles Police Department told the Press Association they had been called out to an incident involving a 25-year-old female but were unable to confirm the patient’s identity. The woman was in a “stable” condition, the spokesman added.

Her family later issued a statement and said that the Sorry Not Sorry singer was awake and breathing at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

PRAYERS AND SUPPORT

“Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy,” the spokesman told the BBC.

Lovato has struggled with substance abuse for years, and was feared to have relapsed in recent weeks.

Just over a month ago, she surprise-released a song called Sober admitting to fans that she had fallen off the wagon.

The song came three months after Lovato celebrated six years of sobriety, a struggle that has been a major through line of her music and, because of her frankness, the greatest source of strength in her connection to fans.

News of Lovato’s hospitalization has attracted numerous goodwill messages from global celebrities on social media.
