CS Mailu closes Jacaranda and San Valencia restaurants, mum on Weston

Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu has closed Jacaranda and San Valencia restaurants indefinitely.

The two have been linked to cholera cases in Nairobi in the recent past.

However, Mailu was silent on Weston Hotel, which was linked to cholera cases during a science conference last month.

Weston Hotel is owned by Deputy President William Ruto.

He said there are 67 patients at the Kenyatta National Hospital four of which have died.

There are 12 in other facilities.

The minister said 12 counties are affected by the outbreak with Nairobi and Garissa actively reporting cases. Garissa has, however, not reported cases in the last two days.

In a raft of measures, the ministry will put up six health centres in the affected areas like Mukuru Kwa Njenga and Mukuru Kwa Reuben, Mathare, Kibera, Kawangware and Mbagathi.

The CS said all water bowsers and vendors will be examined and sources of water checked.
