Court now orders MCAs to vacate City Hall office

War over office space at City Hall has escalated to a new level after acting county secretary Robert Ayisi issued an order to members of the Nairobi County Assembly to vacate Fourth Wing, Northern Wing of City Hall.

Dr Ayisi went to court on Friday November 18, 2016 and obtained a court order to eject MCAs and County Assembly staff from their offices on the said premises and annul a gazette notice that recognized the County Assembly as occupier of the Northern Wing of the City Hall.

The officers were blocked from accessing the premises by police and county askaris on Thursday.

Drama ensued as the legislators and assembly officers engaged with the law enforcement officers.

“MONKEY BUSINESS”

According to the assembly’s Speaker Alex ole Magelo, several engagements with the executive have failed to bear fruit.

The legislators went for a meeting with Internal Security Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery.

“I want to warn Kidero that if you try any monkey game on the county assembly I will come for you,” said Nkaissery while addressing MCAs in his office.

He said he was going to beef up security at the County Assembly precincts just as it is in parliament “and even beef up security for Governor Evans Kidero because he could be a danger to himself”.

The MCAs also complained that they were feeling threatened by goons who gather outside the County Assembly chambers. Despite the ejection, they have stayed put and are not vacating the premises.
