Nairobi County Chief of Staff George Wainaina and his secretary Roselyn Oluoch, who were arrested on Wednesday night by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives, over corruption allegations have been released on Sh 200,000 cash bail and will appear in court on Friday

The two were arrested for attempting to bribe Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko as inducement to have a suit he filed over Loresho plot owned by Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company dropped.

The county staff chief was picked up by detectives from a church where he had been attending a funeral harambee and driven to Integrity Centre under tight security.

CORRUPTION

According to an EACC official who talked to Nairobi News on the phone, Mr Wainaina is being investigated for various allegations, including the sale of the multi-million shilling Loresho wetland.

“They were both arrested on accusations of attempting to bribe Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko with Sh1 million not to raise corruption issues,” the official said.

The two are also being investigated on a number of issues, including the Loresho water reservoir land.

The development comes just days after the senator urged Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero to dismantle a cartel at City Hall that has perfected the act of unprocedurally repossessing properties of individuals over unpaid land rates, renewal of leases and grabbing of public utilities.
