Corporate firms cash in on Museveni’s phone photo

Ugandan corporate bodies have gone all out to outwit each other by associating themselves with a photo of President Yoweri Museveni that has gone viral on social media.

The original photo shows the country’s head of state seated by the roadside while talking on phone, a conversation his aides claim lasted half an hour.

But suave corporate firms have seized the opportunity by recreating the same photo with messages that associate their brand or business with the famous presidential photo.

Leading from the front was the country’s most watched television station, NTV Uganda, which posted an image of the President Museveni making a call his living room while watching the TV station.

NTV Uganda’s closest competitors, NBS TV, was not left behind. The station posted President Museveni’s photo with the head of state seemingly telling the person on the other end of the line to switch on to tune in to the station.

Giant telecommunications firm, Airtel, who are the official sponsors of the Ugandan national football team, also joined the fray with the same photo and a message suggesting that the president was offering some useful tips to Uganda Cranes coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic ahead of a crucial Africa Nations Cup qualifying match. Museveni’s message in Luganda loosely translates to: “Micho, reduce your pressure, 3rd September we go attack at Namboole,”

Not to be outdone, another telecommunications firm MTN Uganda, likewise jumped into the bandwagon, with their version of the photo which shows the president taking advantage of cheap tariff within its network to make that call.
