Concerns as WhatsApp rolls out real-time location sharing
Whatsapp will now allow users to share their location real time.
The new feature will be available in the latest update for Android and iOS users.
In the quest to ensure privacy, end-to-end encrypted feature will allow you to choose who you share your location with and for how long.
Users will be allowed to share live location with their contacts and even groups.
Whatsapp in its announcement of the new feature said it will make it easier for users to meet up with friends as they do not have to give directions outside the App.
This is how to share your location; “Open a chat with the person or group you want to share with. Under “Location” in the attach button, there’s a new option to “Share Live Location.” Choose for how long you want to share and tap send. Each person in the chat will be able to see your real-time location on a map. And if more than one person shares their Live Location in the group, all locations will be visible on the same map.”
Some users have expressed safety concerns as this might be used by strangers to harm others, some who may not be tech-savvy hence unaware.
