City cop arrested for robbing and kidnaping businessman

A police officer in the city is in police custody after he was arrested for allegedly robbing and kidnapping a businessman.

The officer identified as Patrick Mwangi was arrested on Thursday for committing the offence with six of his colleagues last Friday along Lusaka Road.

He is attached to the Transport Pool Vigilance unit.

According to the businessman, he was on his way to deliver miraa (Khat) at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), but on reaching DT Dobie his motor vehicle was stopped by seven police officers.

The officers pulled him and his colleague out of their vehicle and bundled them in a waiting police car.

The victim alleges that four of the officers were wearing jungle uniforms and one was armed with an AK 47 rifle while the rest had pistols which they were brandishing.

They were then driven to Utawala and robbed Sh48,000 and later dumped within the same area.

After the victim reported the matter, police started investigations and one officer was arrested and he is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The officer will be charged with for the offence of robbery with violence and kidnapping.
