Buruburu night club owner released on bond in wife’s murder case
The owner of a popular night club in Buruburu, Nairobi, who is charged with killing his wife has been released on a Sh2 million bond.
A chief magistrate also released Mr Erastus Ngura Odhiambo alias Ediot on a Sh1 million bond in another case where he faces charges of illegal possession of a gun.
Ediot allegedly shot and killed his wife Linda Wanjiku on the night of December 12 2014 at Waihura Court, Buruburu Phase Five.
INTERFERING
Justice Stella Mutuku on Monday concurred with lawyer Robert Onyango that the main reason the suspect would not be released on bond earlier was the fear of interfering with witnesses.
Two key witnesses have since testified.
However she warned the suspect not to contact other prosecution witnesses and not to “conduct any business in Buruburu estate” or risk his bond terms being cancelled.
He is also required to deposit his passport in court as an additional security.
In the other case, the magistrate, Mr Daniel Ogembo, directed the suspect to be reporting to the court on a monthly basis for mentions during the trial in the case of illegal possession of a gun.
MULTIPLE CHARGES
Ediot faces multiple charges of altering a civilian firearm licence and being found in possession of the firearm used in the murder “without lawful authority.”
Mr Ogembo ordered that his passport be confiscated until the case is determined.
“This court directs that any violation of the said conditions will lead to automatic cancellation of the bond granted and the accused person put in custody,” Mr Ogembo said.
The court rejected an earlier application for bail in the murder case.
