Sh160k is all Boniface Mwangi has raised since launching his political party

Civil rights activist-turned-political aspirant Boniface Mwangi says he has so far realised Sh160,000 through donations from well wishers towards his political campaigns.

The former photojournalist is eyeing the Starehe parliamentary seat in the forthcoming general elections, and has made an appeal on social media for well wishers to support the cause.

Earlier in the week he launched the Ukweli Party which he intends to use as the vehicle for his candidacy.

Among the candidates that Mwangi is likely to face is incumbent Maina Kamanda and musician Charles Njagua Kanyi aka Jaguar who are both seeking the Jubilee Party ticket.

WELL WISHERS

“I would like to take this time to Thank You for supporting me. So far, I have managed to raise about KES 160,000 ($1600) from people that I have never met before,” Mwangi wrote on his Facebook timeline.

“A big Thank You to the people I met in the streets and they donated 10bob here, 20bob there, in support of my campaign. Thank you to the shoe-maker in Kariokor Market who made me a pair of shoes; to the Boda-Boda Rider who refused to let me pay him and said “that’s my contribution to your campaign,” Mwangi’s post further reads.

Mwangi has been put a request for on his Facebook page for the donation of laptops, a printer and mobile phones to aid his campaign.

Mwangi now joins an increasing group of aspiring politicians who have extended a begging bowl to the general public.

Others are popular journalist Mohammed Ali famous for the TV investigative series Jicho Pevu and Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s former advisor Miguna Miguna.
