Boniface Mwangi’s guns now trained on Governor Joho

Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has taken a swipe at Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho over the “sorry” state of his city because of poor garbage disposal mechanisms.

In a lengthy Facebook post on Thursday, Mwangi went ham on the governor asking him to put much efforts to clean the city as he does to maintain his beard.

“If Joho put as much effort in cleaning Mombasa as he has put in maintaining that famous beard of his, I bet it would be the cleanest city in the country. Mombasa could use a ‘Joho beard treatment’, washed and cleaned every day,” wrote the daring activist.

Mwangi, who lost the Starehe parliamentary seat contest to rapper Jaguar, said he was in Mombasa for vacation with his family when his daughter sparked a conversation on the Mombasa governor.

JOHO EVERYWHERE

“Over the years l have seen Mombasa grow and expand. As we were walking around Mombasa, my daughter asked me, ‘Is Joho a rich man?’ When l asked her why, she replied, ‘his photos are everywhere’,” recalled Mwangi.

“If you haven’t been in Mombasa lately, there are images of Governor Joho everywhere. There are billboards of him every few metres, just like the piles of overflowing garbage.”

He also said that although efforts have been made at the famous public beach Pirates that include a cabro-paved road leading to the beach with ample supply of lighting, the place still looks like a slum.

“The traders doing business have set up polythene covered stalls. There are no clean toilets, or even running water. A Joho-led county government should construct proper standard stalls for the traders and lease them out for a small fee, ensure daily garbage collection at that beach and provide clean, free toilets for the public,” he said.

HIS LAST TERM

He urged Mr Joho on his last term in office as governor to make it his agenda to keep and leave the city clean as most Mombasa residents have been suffering from no recollection of a clean Mombasa.

Mombasa has been grappling with garbage disposal leading netizens to vent their frustration on social media over the uncleanliness of the city.

Mr Mwangi’s sentiments were, however, met with mixed reaction from the online community.
