Bodyguard loses gun, Sh2.5 million in robbery

The bodyguard of Imenti Central Member of Parliament, Gideon Mwiti Irea was on Wednesday night robbed of his firearm and Sh2.5 million in Ngara, Nairobi.

Nairobi County Deputy Police Commandant, Moses Ombati said the bodyguard, whose name he declined to mention, was in a wines and spirits joint at around 11:00pm when the incident happened.

“He said five men, three of whom were armed with pistols entered the joint and hit him on the head with a blunt object before robbing him” Mr Ombati said.

He however said it was not clear why the bodyguard was carrying such a huge amount of money at that time of the night.

“We are yet to determine the authenticity of the claims and also the link between the Sh2.5 the body guard had and the wines and spirits establishment” he said.

The MP was last year being investigated for his link to a collapsed pyramid scheme with over Sh780 million in member contributions.

He however, on July 29, at the Milimani law courts denied his association with the company he allegedly used to receive the money.

Mr Gideon Mwiti Irea told the court, that he was not behind the Kenya Business Community Sacco which the government shut down for engagement in illegal banking business.

His bodyguard told the police on Wednesday that he was carrying a Taurus pistol loaded with 5 rounds of ammunition.

Elsewhere, another businessman was attacked and robbed of his gun with 13 bullets along Muindi Mbingu Street on Wednesday night.

The businessman had just left his car and was walking along the street when three people attacked him from behind and took his firearm.

The businessman is a licensed firearm holder.
