Blogger Nyakundi apologises for disobeying court orders in Safaricom suit

A blogger who is accused of posting defamatory allegations against current and former Safaricom bosses has tendered his apology  for disobeying court orders.

Mr Cyprian Nyakundi told court that he was apologetic of his continued posts against Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore and his predecessor Michael Joseph on bribery allegations despite the fact that there is an existing order barring him from doing so.

He admitted to having knowledge of the barring orders issued earlier. He, however, argued that his publications were a fair comment on a matter of public interest.

REMORSEFUL

But Justice Lucy Njuguna said that his defense on fair comment will be determined by court at a later date. The judge noted that he was remorseful and apologetic before forgiving him.

Safaricom told the court that Mr Nyakundi’s conduct insinuated that he is not ready to obey the court order and that his writings on his blog indicate that he was aware all along.

The judge consequently extended the order stopping him from publishing defamatory claims against Mr Collymore and Mr Joseph until October 12 when the  case will be coming up.
