Bishop Wanjiru to spend long weekend in custody


Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, will remain in custody for the next four days after a court denied her bail on Thursday over charges of malicious damage to property and creating disturbance.

Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi also ruled that to secure her freedom, Bishop Wanjiru will have to appear in court on Tuesday May 2 and deposit a bond of Sh500,000 and present two sureties of the same amount.

The former Starehe Member of Parliament was accused of willfully and unlawfully destroying four ballot boxes as well as assorted papers valued at Sh30,000, that belongs to Jubilee Party.

The court heard that while accompanied by a group of 50 rowdy youth they stormed City Park Market polling station and in the process damaged the said property. She denied the charges.
