Bachelorhood haunts CBK governor nominee
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s nominee to head the Central Bank of Kenya was on Tuesday made to sweat by Members of Parliament who probed him on his marital status.
Members of National Assembly’s Finance, Trade and Planning Committee also grilled Dr Patrick Ngugi Njoroge on why he has no investment in Kenya.
In his defence, the 54 year-old Dr Njoroge said he is unmarried by choice.
“I am single by choice and that is where I am today. You never know what I will have tomorrow,” he said.
Dr Njoroge, an International Monetary Fund adviser, was nominated to be the next CBK governor after a three-month vacuum.
The committee is vetting President Kenyatta’s nominees to head the Central Bank of Kenya.
Other nominees to be vetted are Mr Jairus Mohammed Nyaoga, who was nominated chairman of the CBK, and Mrs Sheila M’Mbijiwe who is nominated deputy governor.
The committee appears not to have slotted an interview for Harun Sirima, who is also nominated as deputy governor along with Mrs M’Mbijiwe.
