Babu Owino almost in tears as he begs magistrate for his release

By BENSON MATHEKA September 28th, 2017 1 min read

Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili almost shed tears as he pleaded with the magistrate to release him on bond saying that he had been tortured at Pangani polices station cells.

Mr Ongili, who is better known as Babu Owino, also said police jammed the cells with street children who harassed him.

His defence team, led by Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, said the litany of cases he is facing are linked to an election petition against him.

“Hon Babu Owino is being persecuted by the prosecution with instructions from the state,” Amollo said.

The court heard that the complainant is petitioner in the case challenging the first time MP’s election victory.

There was a heavy presence of anti-riot police officers arrive at Kibera Law courts where Babu Owino was arraigned on Thursday even as his supporters accused the police of confiscating the legislator’s phone.
