No resting, August 9 is a work day, declares Matiang’i


Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday said only August 8, 2017 will be a public holiday.

While addressing a news conference  jointly with Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, Mr Matiang’i said he expects normalcy to to resume the day after the General Election.

The acting Interior Cabinet Secretary signed a Gazette notice declaring August 8 a public holiday in accordance with the law.

The CS stated that this would ensure that all Kenyans get a chance to vote.

The Constitution stipulates that: “The day in any year during which a general election is held following the dissolution of Parliament shall be a public holiday”.
