Appeal for help by family of deceased driver who hit and killed jogger divides opinion
An appeal for financial help by the family of a driver, who succumbed to her injuries a few days after being involved in a grisly road accident, which claimed the lives of three other people, has sparked outrage on social media.
The accident occurred on the morning of Jamhuri Day along Mbagathi Way when a vehicle veered off the road hitting and killing a man who was jogging by the wayside.
Two other female occupants of the car also died on the spot, while the driver was left fighting for her life.
FATEFUL MORNING
The driver in question, Tracy Mungai, was rushed to Nairobi Hospital and admitted at the ICU. Sadly, she succumbed to her injures on Monday.
The man who was hit while jogging on that fateful morning has been identified as Administration Police Sergeant Kiprop Maritim, who until the time of his death was the bodyguard and driver of Wajir County Women Representative Fatuma Gedi.
Maritim was also driver and bodyguard to former Wajir County senator, Abdirahman Ali.
HEATED DEBATE
But what has sparked outrage on social media is an appeal by Tracy’s family to well wishers to help them offset accrued medical bills.
On social media, the appeal has evoked a heated debate who between the driver and the jogger’s family is more deserving of financial assistance.
What seems to have further upset the online community are rumours that the driver may have been drunk at the time of the accident.
While Nairobi News could not independently verify these claims, opinion on the matter has been sharply divided on social media.
Will you people also raise funds for the poor man hit by the vehicle she was driving? he is dead too and his family is crying.

I had a feeling that the accident on Mbagathi Way may be due to DUI. @CUEA_OFFICIAL in their messages of condolence to the families of the bereaved should have also consoled the family of the innocent man who was jogging and hit by the car the CUEA students were driving!
