AP officer busted in hotel room with KCSE girl, condoms seized

An Administration Police officer was arrested Tuesday evening after being found with a KCSE candidate in a lodging in Kilgoris Town, Narok County.

The two were fished out of a room in Josvin Bar and Restaurant by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations at around 8pm.

Trans Mara West Deputy County Commissioner Mohamed Noor Hassan said the AP officer is in police custody awaiting to be arraigned in court.

TIGHT SECURITY

The girl is doing her exams under tight security at Sosio Secondary School after she was moved from her previous exam centre at Sankale Secondary School where the AP officer was manning.

The officer is among thousands of security personnel deployed to man this year’s KCSE.

“I have been seeing the officer in our school since we started exams. He has been talking to me about many things, today, he told me to accompany him to town and I obliged,” the girl told journalists.

Mr Noor said the duo spent the night in police cells but the girl was released on Wednesday morning to go continue with her exams.

“We are still investigating the matter. The girl, who is below the age of 18, will also have to undergo a medical test to ascertain whether she may have been defiled,” said Mr Noor.

The girl is said to have left her school and told teachers that she wanted to go do shopping in town.

Though she had been a day scholar, she boarded in the school during the exam period. Detectives are investigating why she was allowed to leave the school in the evening.

CONCERNED RESIDENTS

She was spotted entering the lodging and concerned locals informed security officers.

Mr Noor said they are also investigating why the underage girl was allowed into a lodging.

“It is illegal and we are contemplating withdrawing their license,” he said.

He further said education officers have been dispatched to the school to carry out investigations.

According to Mr Alex Tampushi who witnessed the arrest, detectives had tried to conceal the incident but angry residents pressured them to take action.

“We forced them to re-arrest the officer after they released him under unclear circumstances,” said Mr Tampushi.

PACKETS OF CONDOMS

He said the detectives took away packets of condoms from the lodging as exhibit.

“It is very sad that even with the stringent measures put by the government to curb teen pregnancies, officers who are supposed to protect minors still prey on them,” he said.

He further said it was wrong that the officer removed the girl from school to allegedly defile her.

“As a community, we condemn such behavior strongly,” he said.

Narok county has the highest statistics of teenage pregnancies in the country at 40 percent according to the Kenya Demographic Health Survey.
