70 houses destroyed in Mukuru slum fire

Dozens of families were left homeless after a huge fire destroyed their tin-sheet houses in Mukuru kwa Njenga slums in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

Kenya Red Cross reports that approximately 70 houses were destroyed by the fire. There were no reports of injuries made.

The fire was contained by the Nairobi city fire brigade with the help of local community. The cause of the fire is yet to be established.

The vast slum has experienced numerous fire incidents reportedly caused by illegal electricity connection.
