Needy couple finally lays departed daughter to rest

A needy couple in Nairobi has finally buried their seven year old daughter who collapsed and died while playing with her friends.

The couple’s plight was first highlighted by Nairobi News last week after it emerged that they were unable to raise Sh26,000 needed for their daughter’s burial costs.

Within hours after the story was posted, Kenyans of goodwill came together and raised the money needed for the little girl’s burial.

On Saturday the family finally laid to rest their daughter after close to two months of agony during which the body of girl lay at a mortuary in Nairobi for lack of funds.

ENDLESS WOES

“I would like take this opportunity to thank Kenyans who called and sent me money for my little girl’s burial,” the mother Pascalina Wughanga Fatuma told Nairobi News after the funeral.

The deceased, Truphena Shikamwa, a pre-unit pupil at Mother Teresa children center, collapsed as she played with her friends in Kariobangi estate on April 3rd. She succumbed to her fatal fall as she was being rushed to hospital.

That was the beginning of the couple’ endless woes before well-wishers came to their rescue.

Among those who gave contributions is Embakasi North MP, James Mwangi Gakuyu, who donated Sh15,000.

The girl’s father, Mr Mustafa Akalamwa is a day labourer, while his wife raises only Sh4,000 every month from her cleaning job.
