Nasa eyeing 13 parliamentary seats in Nairobi – Kidero

The Opposition colaition, National Super Alliance (Nasa), is working on a strategy to capture  at least 13 parliamentary seats in Nairobi county and a majority of other elective seats

Governor Evans Kidero said the Opposition outfit has been holding strategy meetings in a bid to deliver more than 1.5 million votes out of the city’s 2.3 million votes in the city to their flag bearer Raila Odinga.

“I have been made to lead Nasa campaign here in Nairobi together with my deputy Jonathan Mueke and the other 17 Member of Parliament aspirants. We had a meeting last week and we are going to have another one in the coming week,” said Dr Kidero.

“We are determined to deliver 13 Member of Parliament seats, 53 Member of County Assembly seats and a majority of the 2.3 million votes to Nasa, we target to deliver to Raila Odinga 1.5 presidential votes,” he added.

He made the remarks on Saturday after attending a church service at Shauri Moyo Seventh Day Adventist Church in Nairobi.

AVOID MISTAKES

He said that they are keen to avoid the mistakes of last elections where the Opposition lost seats because of fielding more than one candidate in their strongholds.

The governor refuted reports by the media that Nairobi County is a battle zone, insisting it is an Opposition zone because 63 per cent of registered voters in the capital are supporters of Nasa.

“In the papers you can see that they have classified Nairobi as a battle zone. Nairobi is not a battle zone, it is a Nasa zone because 63 per cent of the votes are Nasa,” Dr Kidero said.

He blasted the government for playing politics with lives of people by presiding over soaring prices of basic household commodities.

“The government needs to make sure that the price of sugar drops to below Sh100 per kilogram, but if stays at Sh200 then we will conclude that this waiving of tax was not meant to benefit wananchi but to raise funds for campaigns,” he said.
