Nakumatt’s Planet Media Cinemas to screen Riverwood movies

Planet Media Cinemas, the multimedia arm of the regional retail chain Nakumatt Holdings, has extended a much needed shot in the arm for Riverwood film producers, who will now enjoy screening access at the firm’s theatres in Nairobi and Kisumu.

The firm has signed an agreement with Riverwood Ensemble Film Makers Association committing to screen the association’s movies every fourth Thursday of the month for a pilot period of one year.

The local production screenings will feature four of the latest releases under a program christened Riverwood Ensemble Exclusive Kenya Movie Night.

DECENT LIVING

“The agreement is part of Nakumatt Holdings’ commitment to provide a commercial development platform for local filmmakers. Planet Media Cinemas, will continue to support ongoing local development programmes and see to it that more young Kenyans who settle on film-making as a career earn a decent living off it,” said Raman Subramanian, Planet Media Cinemas Director, when he confirmed the engagement.

The agreement, which took effect this week, was signed by Mwaniki Mageria, Secretary General, Riverwood Filmmakers Association on behalf of local filmmakers and producers.

With the signing of the agreement, Riverwood Ensemble members will enjoy screening rights at Planet Media Cinema’s current flagship theatre located at Prestige Plaza along Nairobi’s Ngong road.

“We welcome all Kenyans to make a point of coming along to watch these movies as we seek to enhance our screening menu,” added Mr Subramanian.

WORLD – CLASS PLATFORM

Mr Mageria described the partnership as a long overdue corporate gesture in support of local filmmakers.

“They say charity begins at home and we are proud that Planet Media Cinemas has jumped in to support local filmmakers by providing them with a world-class platform to showcase their talents,” Mwaniki said.

“By coming along to Planet Media Cinemas at Prestige Plaza to watch a Riverwood production movie, you will simply be playing a key part in transforming the local entertainment industry which has a potential to generate billions of dollars,” he added.

Regional retailer, Nakumatt Holdings, recently completed a digital migration project for its Planet Media Cinemas in Kisumu and Nairobi.
