Nakumatt set to open South C branch

Regional retailer Nakumatt supermarket will on Saturday open the doors to its South C supermarket located at Mugoya estate shopping centre.

The new branch, valued at Kshs 150Million, will become Nakumatt’s 42nd branch.

In December, the supermarket chain plans to open a metropolitan store at Lavington.

Nakumatt South C will house complementary outlets including a Java Express Coffee house, a commercial bank and chemist.

Nakumatt Holdings Managing Director Atul Shah, in a statement, said the opening is part of their business recovery plan following the destruction of its former Nakumatt Westgate hypermarket.

The new store, he added, is part of Nakumatt’s bid to beef up its presence in Nairobi.

Around Nairobi County, Nakumatt currently has a network of 17 branches.

“Purely based on a recent market research, Nakumatt is now setting the stage for a concerted effort to beef up our Nairobi Metropolitan presence which will ultimately see us opening at least five more branches within Nairobi County in coming months,” Mr Shah said.

He added: “Besides Nakumatt South C, which is our 18th Nairobi branch, plans are now underway for the opening of Nakumatt Express at Lavington and Nakumatt Eastlands near Donholm very soon.”
