Nairobians judge Sonko harshly for ‘unfulfilled’ promises


It’s been 100 days since Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was sworn into office to replace Dr Evans Kidero, and Nairobians have been eagerly waiting to see if he would live up to his promises.

When he was launching his manifesto earlier this year he had outlined seven priority areas that he said he will address in the first 100 days of his tenure.

These included housing and settlement, education and health, environment, traffic management and transport, jobs and social inclusion.

The one that that stood out was the promise to reduce land rates, parking fees, license fees to the levels before Dr Evans Kidero’s tenure.

Also vegetable vendors, salon owners in slums were promised exemption from tax once Sonko assumed office. The tax exemption would be extended to all traders who run small businesses.

A 100 days later, Nairobians have passed their verdict on Sonko with a not so impressive scorecard thus far. Here are some of their views:
